Erik Condra Named CCHA Rookie Of The Week

Dec. 13, 2005

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame right wing Erik Condra (Fr., Livonia, Mich.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s rookie of the week for the week ending Dec. 11. The talented forward joins fellow freshman goaltender Jordan Pearce (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior defenseman Noah Babin (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) as Irish players to be honored by the CCHA this season.

Condra had a hand in all four goals, scoring twice and setting up two others, in Notre Dame’s home-and-home series split with Minnesota State.

In the 3-2 win at Mankato, Minn., on Tuesday, Dec. 6, Condra scored twice on the night and set up a third Irish goal. His first goal of the game came seven minutes into the contest and came on the power play, giving Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. In the second period, he assisted on a Josh Sciba power-play goal to give the Irish a 2-1 lead. His second goal of the night came in dramatic fashion with just nine seconds left. The Irish controlled a face off in the right wing circle as T. J. Jindra (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) won the draw back to defenseman Wes O’Neill (Jr., Essex, Ont.). After taking a few strides toward the goal, O’Neill moved the puck to the left point to Chris Trick (Sr., Troy, Mich.). Trick fired the puck on goal where Condra was able to deflect it past Maverick goaltender Mike Zacharias for the game-winning goal.

The two-goal game was the first of Condra’s career while his three-point night was the third of the year for the former Lincoln Star (USHL).

He added his final point of the weekend on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Joyce Center when he assisted on Sciba’s goal at 18:28 of the third period with the goaltender pulled in favor of a sixth attacker. That would be the lone goal the Irish would get in a 2-1 loss to Minnesota State.

On the season, Condra leads Notre Dame in scoring with three goals and 12 assists for 15 points in his first 16 collegiate games. He has one power-play tally and one game winner to his credit. He is currently fourth among CCHA freshmen in scoring and ranks 14th in the nation overall.

Condra and his teammates are currently 5-10-1 on the year and 3-6-1 in CCHA play. They close out the first half of the schedule this weekend, Sat.-Sun., Dec. 17-18 with a pair of home games with CCHA foe, Lake Superior State. Saturday’s game has a 7:05 p.m. start while Sunday’s contest is set for 2:05 p.m.
