Senior tight end Mitchell Evans has earned selection to the 2024 Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The award annually recognizes the college football season’s most outstanding tight end.
Notre Dame has had one winner of the Mackey Award, with Tyler Eifert winning the honor in 2012. Eifert was a finalist in 2011, as were Anthony Fasano in 2005, John Carlson in 2006 and Michael Mayer in 2022.
Evans had a breakout season in 2023 before being sidelined with an injury. He played in eight games as a junior, starting seven, and ended the season as the team’s top receiving target, averaging 52.8 yards per game. Through those eight games, Evans totaled 29 receptions for 422 yards and a touchdown during the season, averaging 14.6 yards per catch.
Semifinalists for the Mackey Award will be announced on October 29, with the three finalists announced on November 26. The winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12.
