FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team took the court for the final time of the 2023 season this past weekend in Fort Myers, Florida, taking part in the Bonita Bay Classic hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. The Fighting Irish finished the weekend 6-3 in doubles matches, and totaled 10 wins in singles play.
Nibi Ghosh highlighted singles play, finishing the weekend a perfect 3-0, while the pairing of Julia Andreach and Page Freeman tallied a 3-0 mark in doubles.
Friday’s matches started with the Irish taking on the host Eagles. Notre Dame took two of the three doubles matches, with Freeman and Andreach teaming up for a 6-2 win. Carrie Beckman and Rylie Hanford earned a 6-3 win in their match, with the pairing of Yashna Yellayi and Nibi Ghosh falling 6-3. Singles play saw Notre Dame earn five wins in seven matches. Andreach, Bojana Pozder, Yashna Yellayi, Ghosh and Hanford each earned straight-set wins.
Saturday saw the Irish take on opponents from the University of Memphis. Freeman and Andreach, Beckman and Yellayi and Pozder and Hanford each took home wins in the doubles matches. Freeman earned a tough three-set win over Memphis’s Leonie Moeller, 1-6, 6-1, 10-4. Ghosh added another singles with with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Miriam Grossman.
The final day of action saw the Irish take on fellow Indiana residents, competing with the Purdue Boilermakers. Doubles action saw Freeman and Andreach earn a decisive 6-1 win over Csilla Fordor and Kennedy Gibbs. Singles play saw Andreach earn a three-set win over Carmen Gallardo Guevara, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Ghosh earned a straight-set win over Juana Larranaga, 6-3, 6-1. Hanford concluded the weekend with a three-set win against Tara Katarina Milic, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5.
