  • NAVY (8/26): The Irish did not punt vs. Navy.
  • TENNESSEE STATE (9/2): McFerson made his debut in 2023, and saw his first game action in the 56-3 win over Tennessee State … punted twice, averaging 43 yards per kick, including a 54-yard long.
  • at NORTH CAROLINA STATE (9/9): McFerson made his mark in the 45-24 win at NC State, punting six times for a total of 304 yards (50.7 per punt), including a career-long 59-yard punt in the first quarter … McFerson’s 50.7 average vs. NC State was third-highest among FBS punters that week, while his 304 total yards were the fourth-most among FBS punters that week.
  • CENTRAL MICHIGAN (9/16): McFerson continued to show off his consistency and distance in the 41-17 win over Central Michigan, punting twice and averaging 49.0 per punt … McFerson’s first punt of the day was 55 yards, a booming punt that allowed Notre Dame’s coverage to tackle the returner for a loss of one yard, pinning Central Michigan inside their own 20-yard line.
  • OHIO STATE (9/23): Punted twice, hitting for 92 total yards … Averaged 46.0 yards per kick … Held on field goals and extra points
  • at DUKE (9/30): McFerson averaged 38.8 yards on six punts, including a 57-yard long, in the 21-14 win over No. 17 Duke. His six punts included two inside the 20, as his punts and Spencer Shrader’s kickoffs combined to set Duke’s average field position at their own 24-yard line. Only one of his punts was returned, and the Irish held the return to just seven yards … He posted a 57-yard long, which came on Notre Dame’s own 20-yard line, and McFerson pinned Duke at their own 30, even with a seven-yard return.
  • at LOUISVILLE (10/7): Punted four times in the contest … Game-high 47 yard kick … Averaged 42.5 yards per kick
  • USC (10/14): McFerson punted five times, averaging 45.8 yards, in the dominant 48-20 victory over No. 10 USC. McFerson notched a 51-yard long, also tacking on a special teams tackle and served as the holder for all field goals and extra points … McFerson combined with kicker Spencer Shrader to put USC’s average starting field position at their own 28-yard line, an average which included McFerson’s 51-yard long to pin USC at their own 6-yard line (aided by a six-yard penalty) … Combining with Shrader and long snapper Michael Vinson, the Irish were a perfect 2-2 on field goal attempts and 6-6 on PATs … Notre Dame’s 48 points vs. No. 10 USC were its fourth-most against an AP Top-10 opponent since at least 1936.
  • PITT (10/28): McFerson continued his punting success in his two opportunities in the 58-7 win over Pitt, averaging 38.0 yards with one downed at the Pitt 11-yard line, and the other muffed by the Panthers and recovered by Notre Dame for a touchdown … McFerson’s 41-yard punt in the fourth quarter traveled to the Pitt 6-yard line, where it was fumbled by the Panthers and recovered by Notre Dame’s Ramon Henderson for a score, putting Notre Dame up 37-0. Earlier in the day, McFerson punted first from the Pitt 46-yard line, placing it at the Pitt 11-yard line for a fair catch … McFerson also served as the primary holder for Notre Dame’s extra point and field goal attempts. The Irish netted their only field goal attempt of the day, a 23-yard kick to end the first half, and seven extra points (McFerson served as holder on six extra point attempts).
  • at CLEMSON (11/4): Led all FBS punters that weekend (min 5 punts) with a 50.2-yard average, punting six times for 301 yards, including a 56-yard long … served as the holder for all of Notre Dame’s kicking attempts, as the Irish special teams unit was perfect on field goals and extra points. Notre Dame totaled 11 kicking points on the day, with field goals from 43, 30 and 23 yards … Five of McFerson’s six punts led to Clemson punts on the drives immediately following.
