NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Notre Dame men’s lacrosse All-America goalie Scott Rodgers has been named to the U.S. National Team roster for January’s Champion Challenge. The Fighting Irish will face Rodgers and the U.S. squad for the second straight season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. This year’s game will take place at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Jan. 28.
Notre Dame fell to Team USA, 12-7, in last season’s event. Rodgers played the entire second half between the pipes and made nine saves. The 21-member U.S. men’s senior team also will face Denver on Jan. 29 in this year’s Champion Challenge.
Rodgers, a 2010 Notre Dame graduate, received All-America honors with the Irish in 2009 and 2010. He was named the 2010 NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player as he helped the Irish to a runner-up finish. Rodgers currently plays for the Hamilton Nationals in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and for the Minnesota Swarm in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He also is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Marquette University men’s lacrosse team.
In other Fighting Irish lacrosse alum news, Kevin Ridgway, a 2011 Notre Dame graduate, was selected by the Ohio Machine in the third round (fifth pick overall) of Wednesday’s MLL Expansion Draft. Ridgway was a teammate of Rodgers last season with the Nationals, who were the 2011 MLL runner-up. Ridgway was a standout defenseman for the Irish and received All-America honors as a junior and senior. The Nationals picked Ridgway in the third round (18th overall) of the 2011 MLL Draft.
