ATLANTA, Ga. — The fourth-ranked Fighting Irish extended its winning streak to 12 games, the longest active streak in FBS, with a decisive 31-13 win over Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
The Irish were led offensively by Kyren Williams as he finished with 76 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns. It was Williams’ third game this season with multiple touchdowns (Duke & Florida State). C’Bo Flemister and Chris Tyree both played integral roles in the rushing attack – adding 106 yards on 20 carries combined. Ian Book captained the Notre Dame offense, throwing for 199 yards and a touchdown and added 46 yards on the ground. Javon McKinley hauled in five passes from Book for 93 yards.
On the defensive side the Irish had another strong first half, as they limited the Yellow Jackets to 65 yards of total offense. Daelin Hayes was all over the field for the Irish defense as he notched five tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Notre Dame’s 15-play opening drive lasted 8:38 and ended with Joe Wilkins’ first career touchdown on an eight-yard pass from Book. Book was 7-7 on the opening drive, hitting five different receivers.
Following a 93-yard scoop and score for the Yellow Jackets, the Irish regained the lead on the ensuing drive. Williams capped off a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a two-yard rush to put the Irish up, 14-7.
Kyle Hamilton made a big play on fourth-and-two, stuffing Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield for a six-yard loss and turnover on downs. The Irish took over at the Georgia Tech 49-yard line and ended the drive with a 32-yard field goal from Jonathan Doerer to head into the half with a 17-7 lead.
The Irish forced their first turnover of the game on the opening drive of the second half. Hayes sacked Jeff Sims and forced a fumble which was recovered by Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. The Irish offense needed just six plays to drive 65 yards and finished the drive with Williams’ second rushing touchdown of the game.
A three-yard C’Bo Flemister touchdown to begin the fourth quarter gave the Irish their third rushing touchdown of the afternoon and put the game out of reach.
The Irish will return home to host No. 1 Clemson on November 7 at Notre Dame Stadium. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC as the Tigers will be the first top-ranked team to play at Notre Dame since Southern Cal in 2005.
