Lawrence, Kan. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team saw the first 36 holes of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational washed out by steady rain at the University of Kansas on Monday. The tournament, being held at the par-72, 5,800-yard Alvamar Golf Club, in Lawrence, Kan. will resume on Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. The tournament will be shortened to the 18 holes that were scheduled for Tuesday.
The 18 teams participating include: the host school, the University of Kansas, along with Evansville, Cincinnati, Youngstown State, James Madison, College of Charleston, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Creighton, Bradley, Wichita State, Texas-Pan American, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts and Iowa State.
Competing for the Irish will be freshman Karen Lotta (Los Angeles, Calif.), sophomore Shannon Byrne (Arlington Heights, Ill.), senior Kristin McMurtrie (Calgary, Alb.), sophomore Rebecca Rogers (Alpharetta, Ga.) and junior Terri Taibl (Elm Grove, Wis.).
The Irish were 19th at last week’s Legends of Indiana Tournament and McMurtrie was the top finisher as she tied for 59th with a 235 (75-76-84).
