Notre Dame, Ind. —- Notre Dame sophomore Andreas Forstner (Gerlinden, Germany) was named the BIG EAST men’s soccer defensive player of the week for the second time in three weeks after leading the Irish to its fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over West Virginia. He anchored a Notre Dame backline that surrendered just five shots to the Mountaineers for the entire game.
Forstner is one of two Irish players who has started all 16 games in 2000. Notre Dame’s defense has allowed 21 goals in 16 contests and has a 1.29 goals against average as a team.
Forstner, a two-year starter, has played in 34 games during his two seasons and has started all but one contest.
Notre Dame owns a 7-8-1 overall record this season and finished with a 4-7-0 record in the BIG EAST.
