NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Four University of Notre Dame men’s soccer players have been invited to the 2011 adidas Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine, which will take place Jan. 7-11 at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The Irish quartet is among 54 college seniors from 36 NCAA Division I schools that will participate in the annual event.
Jeb Brovsky (M), Bilal Duckett (D), Greg Klazura (D) and Steven Perry (F) all have been invited to participate in the combine. The four invitees are the most ever for the Fighting Irish program. Notre Dame is one of just three schools with at least four players invited. California and North Carolina both had five players selected. The combine will separate all players into four teams and feature two games per day on Jan. 8, 10 and 11.
Brovsky (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) started all 20 games for the Irish during the 2010 season and tallied nine points on four goals and an assist. The midfielder was named to the all-BIG EAST first team and to the BIG EAST All-Championship team. For his career, Brovsky played in 87 matches, including 60 starts, and registered 42 points on 15 goals and 12 assists. The three-time all-BIG EAST honoree only missed one contest during his career.
Duckett (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) was a starter at right back in every match during the 2010 campaign. He started 40 of the 42 games he played in over the course of the past two seasons. The Fighting Irish defense posted 14 shutouts over the past two campaigns. In 2009, he netted the golden goal in the first overtime period at Georgetown.
Klazura (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) started all 20 matches at left back in 2010. In addition to helping solidify the Fighting Irish defense, he tallied three points on a goal and an assist. For his career, Klazura played in 26 matches.
Perry (Edmond, Okla./Bishop McGuinness) posted team-high and career-high numbers in goals (12) and points (28) during the 2010 season. His four assists also were a career-high total. Perry started all 20 matches for the Irish and was a unanimous all-BIG EAST first-team pick. He also was named to the All-Great Lakes Region second team. Perry registered three two-goal games and had five game-winning tallies during his senior campaign. He played in 75 career matches, including 33 starts, and recorded 38 points on 15 goals and eight assists.
The initial player list for the combine was determined by a panel of Division I college coaches, representing all conferences, who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. These players will be joined by Generation adidas players, additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools, and Division I alternates.
The final player list, combine coaches and team assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.
