NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Savannah Buchanan, Kasey Choma, Bridget Deehan and Madison Ahern each earned IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region accolades for the 2021 season, the IWLCA announced Wednesday morning (May 19).
Buchanan, Choma and Deehan were named to the region’s First Team while Ahern earned Second Team recognition. This marks the third All-Region honor for Buchanan, who was named to the Second Team in 2019 and First Team in 2018, while Ahern, Choma and Deehan earn All-Region recognition for the first time.
ABOUT BUCHANAN
Buchanan leads the Irish with 27 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls this season and ranks second on Notre Dame with 32 draw controls. Buchanan has caused multiple turnovers in seven games in 2021, including a trio of 4CT-efforts against Robert Morris, Liberty and Virginia Tech. Buchanan’s mark of 1.59 caused turnovers per game currently ranks fourth in the ACC. She has also totaled six goals and 10 assists for 16 points for the Irish attack.
ABOUT CHOMA
Choma leads the Irish with 42 goals and ranks second on the team with 47 points in 17 games. Choma has earned a hat trick in seven games in 2021, including a six-goal outing vs. Virginia Tech and a pair of five-goal outbursts against Vanderbilt and Louisville. A 2021 Second Team All-ACC honoree, Choma has also added 17 ground balls, 16 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. She was named the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week on April 26.
ABOUT DEEHAN
A First Team All-ACC honoree, Deehan has currently racked up 157 saves and 27 ground balls for the Irish in 2021. She has hit the double-digit saves mark in eight contests, including a trio of 14-save outings against Syracuse, North Carolina and Virginia. Deehan currently leads the ACC with a mark of 9.27 saves per game. Her efforts this season have seen her named the IWLCA & ACC’s Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions and a top-25 nominee for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award.
ABOUT AHERN
Ahern is tied for third on Notre Dame with 30 goals and 15 assists in 16 games played. A Second Team All-ACC honoree, Ahern has collected at least three points in eight games in 2021, including three five-point performances against Vanderbilt, Syracuse and Boston College. A Preseason Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American, Ahern has also added 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers for Notre Dame.
