NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s soccer team’s season may be over but that hasn’t stopped the awards from rolling in to celebrate their fantastic season. Four Irish were honored by the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Awards: Sammi Fisher and Eva Gaetino were named First Team selections while Korbin Albert and Olivia Wingate earned Second and Third Team, respectively.
For Fisher, the award is just the final tip of the cap to a phenomenal last season in an Irish uniform. A banner year for the grad student who led the team with 13 goals, including four game-winners.
On the flipside was Gaetino who anchored the backline at centerback. The sophomore spearheaded the Irish to a 0.96 goals against average. Not to mention Gaetino had one of the most memorable goals of the year with her diving header golden goal against Clemson.
Next, what can you not say about Korbin Albert. The super freshman scored eight goals over the final 11 games, including four in the last four. She finished with the second-most goals on the squad with 12 and was honored as a top-10 freshman in the country.
Lastly, there’s the speedy veteran Olivia Wingate. The senior was electric during the postseason especially, scoring goals against both Purdue and Arkansas. She finished with seven goals on the year.
