Four Softball Players Chosen For College All Star Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Four Notre Dame softball players have been chosen to compete with a team of college all stars in a doubleheader exhibition Sunday, June 18, against the U.S. Olympic Softball Team in South Bend, Ind. The games will be played at the Belleville Softball Complex, beginning at 4 p.m. EST.

Irish senior pitcher Jennifer Sharron (Agoura Hills, Calif.), junior outfielder Jennifer Kriech (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior catcher Jarrah Myers (Carbondale, Kan.) and sophomore designated player Lisa Mattison (Granger, Ind.) are among the 19 players selected for the squad. The team will be coached by former Notre Dame assistant coaches Kathy Speybroeck and Joe Speybroeck, along with Dawn Austin.

The doubleheader is part of USA Softball’s ‘Central Park to Sydney’ Tour, which is a 35-date pre-Olympic tour in sites around the United States. The tour began June 2, in Chattanooga, Tenn., and ends September 3, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Players expected to attend the doubleheader this Sunday, include 1996 Olympic gold medalists pitchers Lisa Fernandez and Michele Smith, infielders Dot Richardson and Sheila Douty and outfielder Laura Berg.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Olympic team also will conduct a clinic for girls grades 6-12 from 10-noon on June 18. More information can be obtained by calling, (219) 282-1449.
