SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman Uma Kowalski was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Kowalski helped guide the Irish a 2-0 weekend with a 12-10 win over No. 12/15 Michigan and a dominant 25-0 win over Central Michigan. The win is the third regular season shutout in program history.
The freshman midfielder controlled the draw, neutralizing Michigan’s offensive attempts, as she alone recorded more draw controls (9) than the entire Michigan team combined (8). She finished with nine draws in the win on Friday and 11 draws in the win on Sunday for an impressive 20 draws on the weekend.
She also recorded her first career goal in the 25-0 win over CMU and caused two turnovers on the weekend.
The Irish are back in action this weekend as they travel to take on ACC opponent Boston College on Friday, Feb. 13 and Harvard on Sunday, Feb. 15.
