NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference took notice of Eva Gaetino’s golden goal as the league office named her the ACC Defensive Player of the Week. It marks Gaetino’s first weekly conference accolade of her career.
The sophomore defender out of Dexter, Michigan, picked the right moment to score her first career goal. In the 107th minute of double-overtime, Sammi Fisher placed a perfect free kick in the middle of Clemson’s box, where Gaetino went full superman dive to head the ball into the back of the net for the 2-1 win.
In addition, Gaetino continuesd to anchor the backline at centerback, allowing just one goal on the week in wins over Clemson and Louisville. In fact, the 3-0 victory over the Cardinals was the seventh shutout of the season.
Gaetino and the rest of the Fighting Irish will ride an eight-match win streak into No. 2 ranked Virginia this Sunday. First touch is slated for 3 pm ET on ACC Network.
