Gallagher Among 15 Semifinalists For 2017 Hermann Trophy

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s soccer senior forward/tri-captain Jon Gallagher was named one of the 15 semifinalists for the 2017 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy on Tuesday. The award is presented to the top men’s and women’s soccer players in the NCAA each season.

Voting for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy award, determined by All-America voting conducted by NCAA Division I men’s soccer coaches with oversight from the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men’s Senior College All-America Committee, will conclude on Dec. 6. The three finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 8. The trophy winner will be revealed during the Missouri Athletic Club banquet on Jan. 5 in St. Louis.

Gallagher was selected to the All-ACC First Team for the second straight season after leading the ACC with 92 shots (4.60 shots per game) as of Nov. 25. He ranked second in the conference with 13 goals and third with 28 points (13 goals and two assists) as a senior in 2017, and tied for second in the ACC with five game-winning goals this season.

Named to the ACC All-Tournament team after scoring three goals (two game-winners) in tournament play, Gallagher was also chosen as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions, Sept. 11 and Oct. 10. He added College Soccer News National Team of the Week accolades on each of those two instances.

Gallagher finished his Notre Dame career ranked sixth in goals (39) and ninth in points (93) in program history over 84 games played (63 starts). He scored 36 goals over his final three seasons, the most in that stretch by any Irish player since 2006 Hermann Trophy winner Joseph Lapira tallied 38 goals from 2005-07. Named the 2016 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Gallagher was also a 2016 College Soccer News All-America Second-Team honoree.
