NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team closed out a successful weekend of tournament play Sunday, claiming three all-tournament team spots and a bevy of wins hosting the Bobby Bayliss Invitational.
Sophomore Matt Gamble was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after going 4-0 in singles on the weekend playing all A-cut matches. Joining him on the four-man all-tournament team were junior Grayson Broadus (3-0 in A matches), freshman William Howells (4-0) and Northwestern’s Chris Ephron (4-0).
The Irish went 9-2 in singles on the day, putting an exclamation point on a weekend in which Irish players were 29-14 in singles overall. They were also 4-2 in doubles on Sunday to finish the weekend 6-2 overall.
The Irish are next slated to compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, running Oct. 19-23 at Michigan.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
