Senior defensive tackle Trevor Laws begins his third season as one of the key members in the middle of the Notre Dame defensive line, having played in 24 consecutive games over the last two seasons (starting all 12 in 2005). He recorded 33 tackles (eight solo with 25 assists) last season, including three tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks on the year. A force in the middle, Laws also blocked two field goals in ’05. He shared the football team’s Westwood One/State Farm Student-Athlete Award with Dan Santucci, recording a 3.15 grade-point average. Laws came to Notre Dame as a USA Today first-team prep All-American from Apple Valley High School. GameDay’s Laura Hansen gives Irish a fans a chance to get to know Trevor Laws
Hansen: What is your major and why are you interested in it?
Laws: My major is marketing and I’m interested in it because I like advertising.
Hansen: What is your favorite class and why?
Laws: My favorite class is a guitar class because I want to be a good musician.
Hansen: Do you have any nicknames? What are they?
Laws: Some people call me “The Rodent.” One of my old coaches gave it to me because I was always crawling around, making plays.
Hansen: What has been the most embarrassing moment in your athletic career?
Laws: My most embarrassing moment came when I was celebrating a great play during practice one time, I jumped up and came down on someone else’s ankle and twisted my own ankle.
Hansen: What other schools did you consider before coming to Notre Dame, and what made you choose Notre Dame?
Laws: I looked at mostly Big Ten schools like Michigan and Iowa because I wanted to stay close to home. I chose Notre Dame because it was the best school for me to excel in life, academics and football.
Hansen: Who has been your biggest non-sports role model and why?
Laws: My biggest non-sports idol would be my older brother, Drew, because he’s always been there supporting me.
Hansen: What is one thing in your life that you cannot live without?
Laws: I can’t live without my friends, my habits and my family.
Hansen: What is the best advice that you have ever been given and who gave it to you?
Laws: My mom told me to always work hard and good things will come.
Hansen: Where is the toughest stadium that you’ve played as a college football player?
Laws: The toughest place that I’ve played is Neyland Stadium at Tennessee.
Hansen: Who is the best athlete that you have ever competed against?
Laws: The best athlete that I’ve ever played against is [Notre Dame center] Dan Chervanick.
Hansen: What song best describes your personality?
Laws: “Chain Hang Low” by Jibbs would best describe me.
Hansen: What is your favorite place on campus?
Laws: My favorite place on campus is South Dining Hall.
Hansen: NDH or SDH? Why?
Laws: SDH because there is a better selection.
Hansen: If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go and why?
Laws: I would travel to Jamaica because I like the people.
Hansen: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
Laws: If I had as super power, I would want to be able to reverse time.
Hansen: What was your favorite TV show growing up as a kid? And nowadays?
Laws: As a kid, I watched “Power Rangers” and now I like to watch “Lost.”
Hansen: If you were stranded on an island and could only eat one meal, only listen to one song, and spend you time with only one person; what would you eat, what would you listen to and who would you pick?
Laws: I would eat Chipotle, listen to “Do You Realize” by Flaming Lips, and I would be with my girlfriend.
Hansen: If you had a chance to play golf with anyone in history, who would be in your foursome, in addition to yourself, and why?
Laws: I would want to play golf with Bill Clinton, my grandma and Tiger Woods because they are all very influential people.
Hansen: When your football career is over, what do you see yourself doing? Laws: Maybe being my own star on the Food Network.
Hansen: Describe what it feels like on game day and playing in Notre Dame Stadium.
Laws: It’s a rush of excitement coming out of that tunnel. It’s great to be able to hear everybody cheering for you.
Hansen: What is your favorite thing about playing for Notre Dame?
Laws: Having the support of so many fans around the country.
