Sanchez Joins Notre Dame For Graduate Season

The forward played undergraduate basketball at Arizona and Kansas State

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame added its second transfer portal pickup of the offseason on Friday, as the Irish signed forward Gisela Sanchez for the 2025-26 season. The former Kansas State product hails from Barcelona, Spain.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gisela to our Notre Dame family,” Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey said. “Gisela brings size, depth and versatility to our team. With her ability to stretch the floor and attack off the bounce, she will be an incredible addition to our dynamic offense.

“I am excited to have her will to work and competitive drive to enhance what we are building!”

The 6-4 post averaged 4.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 15.4 minutes per game played last season. Over the course of her career, Sanchez has scored in double-figures nine times, including a career-high 18 points against BYU and Oklahoma in January 2024.

Prior to joining the Wildcats in Manhattan, Sanchez played one season at Arizona.

In addition to her time in the States, Sanchez has competed for Spain in multiple international competitions, most recently at the 2022 and 2023 FIBA U20 Women’s European Championships. She helped her home country to a bronze medal in Lithuania in 2023, averaging 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor over 15.8 minutes of play.

Sanchez joins Malaya Cowles in this year’s Irish transfer class. Cowles is also a forward, and she played undergraduate basketball at Wake Forest.
