JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Notre Dame’s softball team (5-6), behind the two-run first inning double from sophomore Erin Glasco (Johnston City, Ill./Johnston City), defeated Virginia (7-10), 4-1, on the first day at the Crispers/JU Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday, March 2.
The Irish jumped ahead with three runs in the first. Senior Stephanie Brown (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol) singled over the shortstop. Freshman Heather Johnson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Mater Dei) would reach first on a hit by pitch. After a lineout, Glasco drilled a double off the wall, a foot from a home run, to drive in Kohan and Johnson and give Notre Dame a three-run inning.
The Cavaliers broke through for a run in the fourth inning. Kelly Haller hit a single through the right side. Casey Steffan pinch ran for Haller and came in to score the first Virginia run on the throwing error from the Irish shortstop.
Notre Dame got the run back in the fifth inning. Freshman Ashley Ellis (Pikeville, Tenn./Bledsoe County) start the frame with a walk, went to second on the sacrifice bunt, moved to third on Brown’s infield single and came in to score on the sacrifice fly from Northway.
