Graham Slaggert Named A Hockey Humanitarian Nominee

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  – The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced Fighting Irish senior captain Graham Slaggert has been named one of 11 nominees for the 2022 Hockey Humanitarian award.

The award, which is celebrating its 27th season, is presented annually to college hockey’s finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.

On the ice, Slaggert has played all 24 games this season, scoring seven goals and adding six assists for 13 points. Most recently he had a goal and two assists to help the Irish post an 8-2 win over Boston College (Jan. 19), marking the ninth multi-point game of his career. Slaggert was selected as a 2021 All-Big Ten Second Team preseason honoree and he was also named a Senior Class Award candidate (Dec. 8).

For his career, Slaggert has played 128 games while notching 57 points on 22 goals and 35 assists.

Off the ice, Slaggert serves on Notre Dame’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He is pursuing a management consulting degree, earned Big Ten All-Academic Team honors each of the past two seasons and earned the distinction every year he has been eligible.

Slaggert also spearheaded Notre Dame’s involvement with the 525 Foundation, which helps raise funds and awareness about the dangers of both alcohol and prescription drug misuse and abuse. The Foundation was formed after the tragic deaths of Nick and Jack Savage, whom Slaggert played youth hockey with

During the 2019-20 season, Slaggert and the Irish developed a commemorative jersey and after wearing them for a game in February, raised nearly $7,000 for the foundation through an online auction. Earlier this season, Notre Dame hosted a drop-2-stop pill drop game where attendees dropped off unused, unwanted and expired prescription medications to dispose of safely.

Finalists for the 2022 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2022 recipient will be honored on Friday, April 8th during the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four weekend in Boston, Massachusetts.
