Greatest Plays of the Weis Era - #5 - Samardzija Over The Shoulder

Aug. 3, 2009

Top Plays of the Weis Era

Jeff Samardzija’s spectacular career at Notre Dame included great moments on the football field and the baseball diamond. The all-time career touchdown reception leader for the Irish, Samardzija is currently in the Chicago Cubs bullpen as they battle for first place in the National League Central Division.

To select the Greatest Plays of the Charlie Weis Era, we nominated 30 performances – and Samardzija showed up on the list seven times. He is in the top 10 twice, with number five coming up today –

Two other plays from Samardzija, his first touchdown catch at Pittsburgh and his fourth-down catch and run for touchdown against Michigan State ended up at #11 and #12 on the final voting list. His 80-yard touchdown at Stanford was #16, his record-breaking touchdown catch against North Carolina ended up at #21 and his momentum shifting catch and run against Tennessee was #25. You can view all of those videos by visiting the top plays of the Weis era nomination page.

When und.com launched its redesigned site on July 8, 2009, we asked for Irish fans to vote for the top plays of the Charlie Weis era. After close to 13,000 votes, Notre Dame fans have determined the top 10 plays since 2005 – and we will be unveiling them one at a time over the next 10 business days until fall football practice begins on Aug. 8.

Pass Right is #5 on the list – check back on Tuesday, Aug. 4, as we continue the countdown to #1 and to Coach Weis’ first press conference of the 2009 season on Friday, Aug. 7.
