Classroom
Klazura earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-professional studies (pre-med) in May of 2011. He finished his undergraduate career with a 3.583 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). Klazura currently is taking courses that emphasize service and or medicine to boost his resume for medical school. He was named to the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region first team. He also is a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star (2009 & 2010).
Character
Klazura will serve as a team captain during the 2011 season. He turned down an offer to the 2011 Major League Soccer (MLS) Draft Combine to return to Notre Dame for one more season. During the summers of 2009 and 2010 he served as a counselor at the Notre Dame soccer camp. During the past three summers he also has served as a coach for children ages 5-17 at the Notre Dame soccer camp. He was a soccer camp counselor at his alma mater, Boylan High School, during the summer of 2008.
Community
Klazura currently volunteers at the Sr. Maura Brannick Health Clinic, a clinic for low-income patients in St. Joseph County (Ind.). In the summer of 2010, he was a Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children volunteer at Project Limon in Nicaragua. In the summer of 2009 he coordinated home improvement for Rockford (Ill.) Urban Ministries. As the work camp coordinator, he worked with volunteer groups across the country by organizing their supplies and troubleshooting work site problems. Also in 2009, he developed and published a social service listing for the Rockford, Illinois, community through the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. Greg taught a fourth-grade Spanish class at St. Anthony de Padua Elementary School during the 2009-10 academic year. He completed a summer learning service program in 2008. In that role, he performed a variety of tasks as the intern at the CarpenterÃÆ’Ã € ‘ ¯ ¿ ½s Place Homeless Day Shelter, including meal services, laundry, furniture pickup and office work. Klazura also was a member of ND-8 in 2008-09 where he participated in a human trafficking awareness campaign. In addition, he has been involved with Special Friends, which is an activity to help autistic children. Klazura is employed as a Community Based Researcher at the Center for Social Concerns.
Competition
Klazura started all 20 matches at left back during the 2010 season. In addition to helping the Notre Dame defense post six shutouts on the season, he tallied three points on a goal and an assist and logged the second-most minutes on the team (1,883) during the season. He has played in 26 career matches, including 21 starts, and has earned two varsity monograms with the Fighting Irish. During KlazuraÃÆ’Ã € ‘ ¯ ¿ ½s time at Notre Dame, the Irish have earned four NCAA Tournament bids and captured two BIG EAST Blue Division titles.
