CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second consecutive week, the Notre Dame fencing team swept both ACC Fencers of the Week following a successful showing at the Schiller Duals this past weekend in Evanston, Illinois, the conference announced Wednesday. Sophomore Siobhan Sullivan and senior Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle both earned weekly conference honors.
It’s the fifth total time this season that the Irish have earned fencer of the week honors. Last week, Josephina Conway and Kruz Schembri both earned weekly conference honors.
Sullivan, a former First Team All-American, was a perfect 12-0 at the Schiller Duals. Now 21-6 on the season, Sullivan helped the second-ranked Irish knock off No. 6 Northwestern, #11 Stanford and #14 Temple. The Irish women’s team went 6-0 on the day and are now 23-1 on the season.
Hamilton-Meikle posted a 14-1 overall record in Epee in Illinois, surpassing 100 career wins for the Irish. A two-time All-American, Hamilton-Meikle paced the top ranked Irish men’s team to wins over No. 15 UC San Diego and No. 12 Stanford.
Notre Dame continues the season this weekend in North Carolina. The Irish will compete in the Alex and Elizabeth Beguinet Classic hosted by Duke on Saturday before heading to Chapel Hill for North Carolina’s Ron Miller Invitational on Sunday.
