NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Not only are Harrison Shipp (Sr./F) and Patrick Hodan (So./M) the top two point scorers this season for the Notre Dame men’s soccer team, they also are very successful in the classroom and the two student-athletes have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Fighting Irish duo now will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Shipp will look to become the first two-time Academic All-American in program history after copping second-team honors last season.
Shipp (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) leads the Irish in goals (6) and assists (6) this season. He has three game-winning tallies, including the golden goal in a 2-1 win at Clemson. Shipp also deposited the first goal against the Tigers. Two matches later, he netted the decisive goal in the 90th minute in a 1-0 victory at Virginia Tech, which was part of a career-best seven-game point streak for the senior captain.

Shipp, a Senior CLASS Award finalist, has never missed a match during his Notre Dame career and he has totaled 54 points on 17 goals and 20 assists. He earned third team all-BIG EAST honors last season in addition to being named to the all-Great Lakes Region second team. A dean’s list member each of the last five semesters, Shipp boasts a 3.883 cumulative grade-point average as a finance major in Notre Dame’s nationally-ranked Mendoza College of Business. Last season, he was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America Second Team.
Despite missing two games with an injury, Hodan (Brookfield, Wis./Marquette University High School) still has managed to post four goals and three assists this season. In his first match back, he tallied a goal and an assist in a 2-1 victory at North Carolina State. Hodan also compiled a goal and an assist in a 3-0 triumph at Syracuse.
Hodan has appeared in 34 matches during his first two seasons with the Fighting Irish and has registered 10 goals and eight assists. Along with posting a solid rookie campaign on the field with six goals and five assists, he was on the dean’s list both semesters of his freshman year. Hodan, a BIG EAST all-rookie team selection last season, carries a 3.917 cumulative grade-point average in the Mendoza College of Business.
Shipp and Hodan have played a major role in Notre Dame’s successful 2013 campaign. The Fighting Irish currently are 8-1-5 (5-1-3 ACC) and ranked second nationally. Notre Dame has a key road test Saturday against No. 12 Wake Forest (7 p.m. ET). The Demon Deacons lead the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Notre Dame and Maryland are one point behind in second place.
