Notre Dame, Ind. —- Jon Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) and Todd Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) scored three goals each as Notre Dame won for the eighth time in nine games in winning its third straight with a 13-2 win at home against Air Force. With the victory, the Irish improve to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Great Western Lacrosse League.
Notre Dame’s defense continues to be a dominating factor for the Irish who held its opponents to under seven goals for the third straight game. In its last three outings, the Irish defense has yielded just 12 goals, while its potent offensive attack has scored 42 goals.
Today’s win over the Falcons marked the 13th straight win for the Notre Dame in the 14-game series. With the loss, Air Force drops to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the GWLL.
Playing its second of four straight home games, Notre Dame scored the first nine goals of the game and held the Falcons scoreless until the 12:13 mark of the fourth quarter.
Devin Ryan (Kensington, Md.) got the Irish on the scoreboard with the first of his two goals 13:50 into the contest. Notre Dame led 4-0 after the first quarter with Steve Bishko (West Islip, N.Y.), Todd Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) and Harvey each rounding out the first-quarter scoring.
Todd Ulrich scored twice in the second quarter with Ryan and Harvey also adding scores as the Irish led 8-0 at halftime. David Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) assisted on Ryan’s goal with 8:55 remaining in the second quarter and moved within five assists of become the school’s all-time career assist leader. In three-plus seasons, the senior attack has collected 96 assists. The record of 100 is held by former Irish great Randy Colley (1991-95).
Goalie Kirk Howell (Nashville, Tenn.) played 40:52 of the contest and did not allow a goal and made five saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Antol (Baldwin, Md.) played a career-high 19:08 and made three saves, while allowing two goals.
Adam Gaudinski tallied the first Falcon score in the fourth quarter, while Mike Colosimo added the second score with 2:35 remaining.
Owen Asplundh (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) scored twice in the fourth quarter for the Irish, while John Mulflur (Eastern Md.) and Steve Clagett (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) tallied their first career goals to round out the Irish scoring. Mulflur also was credited with his first career assist on Asplundh’s second goal of the gam with 5:42 left to play in the contest.
Notre Dame returns to action on Sat., April 14 when the Irish entertain Army at 1:00 p.m.
