MADISON, Wis. — The Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a 297 in NCAA Regional second round play on Tuesday at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin and are in 14th place (299-297=596).

The 297 marked the third lowest NCAA Regional round in program history, behind 2013’s first round (292) and 2015’s second round (293).

Freshman Abby Heck led the Irish on day two with a one-over par 73. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, she had a consistent round that included a birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys. She finished her round with 11 consecutive pars.

“Abby played the most solid round of the tournament for us today,” head coach Susan Holt said. “She had a handful of putts lip out and hit the ball well enough to be under par.”

Sophomore Mia Ayer took three strokes off her first round score to card a second round 74. She closed strong, posting birdies on her final two holes of the day.

Juniors Emma Albrecht and Isabella DiLisio shot second round 75’s to also score for the Irish. For DiLisio, it marked a return to form by taking 13 strokes off her first round score.

“I’m really proud of Isabella being able to bounce back after a tough first round,” Holt added. “We also loved seeing the fight Mia had today with making birdies on her last two holes.”

The 12th-seeded Irish will close out NCAA Regional play on Wednesday, with tee times starting at 8:54 a.m. CT.

“Our best team score is still out there for us and we’re looking forward to capping off a successful season with a great overall team performance tomorrow,” Holt concluded.

Duke (562) and Virginia (570) are in first and second place, respectively, with one round to play. On the individual leaderboard, Nicole Schroeder of Oregon State (68-66-134) leads the field, followed by Erin Harper of Indiana (70-68-138).
