CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hannah Hidalgo has earned more ACC Rookie of the Week honors than anyone in conference history. And it is mid-February.
On Monday, the ACC announced that Hidalgo has earned her 11th Rookie of the Week award, passing Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson to break the record. Latson had 10 last year.
Last week in a loss at No. 15 Louisville and a double-overtime victory at Florida State, Hidalgo led the ACC with 28.5 points per game and paced the nation with 12 total steals. She had 30 points against the Cardinals, marking the fifth time this season she has posted at least 30. She has also scored at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games, which is a school record. Additionally, when Hidalgo hit 530 total points for the season on Thursday, she broke a 43-year-old freshman scoring record held by Shari Matvey.
Hidalgo notched a school record on the defensive end of the floor last week as well. She swiped her 115th steal of the season on Sunday, passing Skylar Diggins’ 114 steals and setting the program single-season record. She has already set the ACC freshman steals record.
Outside of the new records, Hidalgo went 19-20 from the charity stripe last week, the most made free throws of any major conference player in that time frame. Two of those free throws sealed the 2OT win at Florida State.
On the season, Hidalgo continues to lead the ACC with 25.1 points per game and the nation with 5.1 steals per game. She leads all ACC rookies in the assists column (5.6) and ranks second overall.
