CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the fifth time this year, Hannah Hidalgo is the ACC Rookie of the Week. For the second time, she has coupled that with an ACC Player of the Week honor. Hidalgo is the first player in Notre Dame women’s basketball history to notch both the Player and Rookie of the Week awards in the same week more than once. Brianna Turner did it once during her first year at Notre Dame.
Hidalgo had 26 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals in an 84-47 win over Western Michigan on Dec. 21. It was the highest-scoring triple-double in program history and just the second ever notched by a true freshman.
The freshman out of New Jersey continues to prove she is one of the best players — just not freshmen — in all of college basketball. She is pacing the ACC with 23.8 points per game, and she leads the nation in steals (6.0). Hidalgo already has five performances of at least 25 points on the year.
Earlier on Tuesday, Hidalgo was also named the AP National Player of the Week. It is her first time earning that award.
