CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the second consecutive week, Hannah Hidalgo is your ACC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. It is the fifth time in her career Hidalgo has earned the honor.
The 5-6 guard from Merchantville, N.J., put on a show at No. 3 USC on Saturday, dropping 24 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. She has put up 20+ points in 30 of her 40 collegiate games and now has 10 career games with at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, which is more than any other Division I player in the last 25 years.
“Big time player, big time stage,” Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey said of Hidalgo after Saturday’s victory. “I’m not at all shocked by what she did today. From the beginning, she guarded everyone on the court. She’s so feisty and energetic. It’s contagious for our group.”
Saturday’s performance added to an already lengthy resume for Hidalgo against ranked teams. Over her career against AP Top 25 opponents, the guard has averaged 21.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.3 steals per game.
On the season, Hidalgo leads the nation with 5.2 steals per game and ranks third with 24.8 points per game. She is shooting 48.9 percent from the floor and has made 43 field goals (24th in the country) and 28 free throws (35th in the country).
Hidalgo and the Irish will be back in action this week at the Cayman Islands Classic, as Notre Dame plays No. 17 TCU (6-0) on Friday and Utah (5-1) on Saturday. The games can be streamed on FloHoops.com.
