CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Add another one to the list for Hannah Hidalgo, who was announced as the ACC’s Rookie of the Week for the eighth time this season.
Notre Dame went 2-0 last week with major contributions from Hidalgo. The rookie had 27 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in a 98-48 win over Boston College, marking her fifth double-double of the year. She added 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals against Miami on Sunday. Hidalgo was instrumental in helping Notre Dame hold a lead over the Hurricanes, scoring 8 points in a 13-point third quarter.
With Sunday’s performance, Hidalgo tied two notable records. It was her 13th game this season with at least 20 points, tying Beth Morgan Cunningham’s freshman single-game record. With 7 steals, Hidalgo tied Skylar Diggins-Smith in games with at least 6 steals. That is a career record, not a freshman record. Hidalgo is just 15 games into her career.
Hidalgo continues to lead the ACC with 24.2 points per game, and she is pacing the nation with 5.7 swipes every time she takes the court.
The New Jersey native broke Notre Dame’s conference rookie of the week honors record last week with her seventh award. The previous record was held by Jacqueline Batteast (Big East), Alicia Ratay (Big East), Brianna Turner (ACC) and Sonia Citron (ACC). All four of those women went on to be their respective conference’s Rookie of the Year.
Notre Dame goes back on the road this week for a matchup with Virginia (8-8, 0-5). Thursday’s game tips off on ACCNX at 7 p.m.
