ATLANTA – Another one.
Notre Dame freshman Hannah Hidalgo earned Naismith Women’s College Player of the Week honors on Monday after her record-breaking 34-point performance in the 82-67 victory over No. 8 UConn in Storrs.
Hidalgo’s 34 points broke Notre Dame’s single-game freshman scoring record (previously was 33 points by Michelle Marciniak set in 1991) and marked the second time the freshman has scored more than 30 points against a Top-10 opponent this season (South Carolina).
In total on the week, Hidalgo averaged 28.5 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists against two ranked opponents.
The freshman leads the nation in steals (97) and steals per game (5.11) and leads the ACC in points per game (24.4) and total points (464), ranking fourth amongst all players nationally.
Hidalgo adds another prestigious honor to her groundbreaking freshman season, already having been named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Top 10 and the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List. She has also made her mark in weekly awards, earning ACC Rookie of the Week honors eight times this season (setting a Notre Dame record), ACC Player of the Week honors twice, AP Basketball Player of the Week and USBWA Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week honors once.
