After earning ACC Player of the Week distinction on Monday, Hannah Hidalgo has been named AP Player of the Week and one of five U.S. Basketball Writers Association Ann Meyers Drysdale Players of the Week after a thrilling performance at No. 3 USC last weekend. She was a Preseason AP All-American, and this is her second time in her short career earning AP Player of the Week honors (December 2023).
The Irish sophomore guard amassed 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals in the 74-61 victory over the Trojans. She has put up 20+ points in 30 of her 40 collegiate games and now has 10 career games with at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals, which is more than any other Division I player in the last 25 years.
“Big time player, big time stage,” Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey said of Hidalgo after Saturday’s victory. “I’m not at all shocked by what she did today. From the beginning, she guarded everyone on the court. She’s so feisty and energetic. It’s contagious for our group.”
On the season, Hidalgo leads the nation with 5.2 steals per game and ranks third with 24.8 points per game. She is shooting 48.9 percent from the floor, has made 43 field goals (24th in the country) and 28 free throws (35th in the country).
Hidalgo and the No. 3 Irish (5-0) will be back in action this week at the Cayman Islands Classic, as Notre Dame plays No. 17 TCU (6-0) on Friday and Utah (5-1) on Saturday. The games can be streamed on FloHoops.com.
