CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Add another tally to the ACC Rookie of the Week column for Hannah Hidalgo.
On Monday, the freshman guard won her third ACC Rookie of the Week honor in as many tries. She joins Sonia Citron and Brianna Turner as the only Irish to win the ACC award at least three times. Citron and Turner had six each, although they never strung together more than two in a row. Both Citron and Turner ended up being the ACC Rookie of the Year.
Hidalgo continues to wow on the national stage. On Friday, she posted her sixth consecutive performance of at least 20 points. The only other players in Irish history to achieve that feat are Beth Morgan and Arike Ogunbowale. In total over the last week, Hidalgo averaged 24 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 5.5 steals. She notched 8 steals at Ball State.
Overall this season, Hidalgo is leading the ACC in both points (25.0) and steals (6.3) per game. There have been six performances of 6 or more steals in the ACC this year. Hidalgo has four of them (and her teammate Cassandre Prosper has another). Hidalgo also leads all ACC freshmen with 5.5 assists per game.
