Hockey Announces Captains For 2025-26

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Hockey season is right around the corner and a new era is upon the University of Notre Dame hockey program. Before lacing up the skates for puck drop on the 2025-26 season, Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach Brock Sheahan has announced five individuals who will don letters this season. The leadership team consists of senior Michael Mastrodomenico and junior Danny Nelson as co-captains while senior Axel Kumlin and juniors Paul Fischer and Cole Knuble will have “A”s stitched upon their sweater.

The group have combined for 329 games for the Irish, and have amassed 189 points over their careers at Notre Dame. Last season, all five ranked among the top point-scorers for the Irish, each posting career-bests of 15 or more points in the 2024-25 campaign. The junior trio were three of the top-five scorers a season ago, with Knuble leading the charge with 39 points off 12 goals and 27 assists. Meanwhile the senior blueliners each shattered their previous career high point totals with Kumlin ranking second among defensemen with 21 points (6-15-21) and Mastrodomenico third with 15 (4-11-15).

Fans can get their first look at the 2025-26 Irish a week from Friday as Notre Dame takes on the U.S. National Team Development Program on October 3 inside USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. The team’s first home games are set to take place October 16-17 as they faceoff against St. Lawrence in a two-game series at Compton Family Ice Arena. Single game tickets for those games will go on sale Thursday, September 25, at 6 p.m.
