NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame midfielder Brian Hubschmann (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton) was recently selected by the Long Island Lizards in the 2007 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft. Hubschmann was taken in the fifth round as the 41st pick overall.
Hubschmann becomes the eighth player in Notre Dame history to be selected in the MLL Draft. He played in 53 career games, making 42 starts, and totaled 124 points on 79 goals and 45 assists. Hubschmann concluded his Fighting Irish career ranked 10th on the school’s all-time goals list and 12th on the points listing.
In 2006, Hubschmann shared the team lead with 50 points and led the Irish with 31 goals. He returned for a fifth year in 2007 because he missed all of his junior season due to a knee injury. During his final season in a Notre Dame uniform, he switched from attack to midfield midway through the 2007 campaign and finished second on the squad with 27 goals. His 39 total points placed him in a tie for second.
Long Island now features two Notre Dame alums. The Lizards selected attackman Pat Walsh, a 2006 Notre Dame graduate and Long Island native, in last year’s draft. The duo will team up once again after posting big numbers during their Fighting Irish careers.
