Inside The Game: #5/4 Notre Dame 70, Michigan 50

It Was Over When: Notre Dame went on a quick 7-0 run (led by five points from sophomore guard Lindsay Allen) in a span of 1:34 early in the second half to push its lead up to 44-28 and force a Michigan timeout. The Wolverines got no closer than 14 the rest of the contest.
Game Ball Goes To: Sophomore guard Lindsay Allen, who tied for game-high honors with a career-best 17 points on near-perfect shooting (seven of eight field-goals, plus both free-throw attempts). The Mitchellville, Maryland native also had a game-high three steals, dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.
Unsung Hero: With classmate Brianna Turner still out with a shoulder injury, freshman forward Kathryn Westbeld nearly posted her second double-double of the season, finshing with 13 points (on six of nine shooting) while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Unofficial Play of the Game: Capping the aforementioned 7-0 Fighting Irish run, junior guard/tri-captain Michaela Mabrey stole the ball from Michigan’s Madison Ristovski, raced down the court and ultimately found Allen on the left wing for a three-pointer and a 44-28 Notre Dame lead with 15:03 left in the second half.
Stat Of The Game: The Fighting Irish doubled the Wolverines up in the paint, scoring 48 points in the post, their highest output since a similar 48-point effort against Quinnipiac on Nov. 25 at Purcell Pavilion.
Additional Notes: Notre Dame held its opponent to less than 60 points for the seventh time in 11 games this season, but the first since an 89-47 win over Kansas on Nov. 30 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut … the Fighting Irish earned their 58th consecutive win over an unranked opponent (according to the Associated Press poll), tying UConn for the longest active streak of that kind in the nation … Notre Dame shot better than 50 percent from the field for the seventh time this season and first since Dec. 3, when it connected at a .580 clip against No. 15/10 Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Fort Wayne, Indiana … Michigan came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in three-point percentage (.423), but the Fighting Irish held the Wolverines to a .214 three-point percentage (three of 14) on Saturday … Notre Dame earns its second consecutive win over Michigan and fifth in the past six series meetings, improving to 11-7 all-time against the Wolverines (8-1 at Purcell Pavilion) … the Fighting Irish also are 10-1 all-time against Michigan when holding the Wolverines to 65 points or less … Notre Dame evens its all-time record against the current Big Ten Conference alignment at 69-69, with a 35-24 (.593) record at home and 61-48 (.560) mark in the 28-year Muffet McGraw era … Notre Dame has won 24 of its last 30 games against current Big Ten schools, including an active 13-game winning streak (three victories this season) … the Fighting Irish are 59-20 (.747) all-time against schools from the state of Michigan, with a 39-8 (.830) record in the McGraw era … Notre Dame has won 16 of its last 17 games against Michigan schools, dating back to the 2005-06 season … sophomore guard Lindsay Allen scored a career-high 17 points, one more than her previous best set against Miami on Jan. 23, 2014 … junior guard Jewell Loyd scored in double figures for the 54th consecutive game, continuing the second-longest streak in school history … senior guard Madison Cable earned her second consecutive start (and fifth of her career), ending with nine points, four rebounds and a career-high four blocks (previous best was two blocks against Oklahoma State in the NCAA Sweet 16 on March 29, 2014 … freshman forward Kathryn Westbeld not only flirted with her second double-double of the season, but also nearly eclipsed her career scoring high of 15 points, set against Holy Cross on Nov. 23 at Purcell Pavilion.
Up Next For The Fighting Irish: Following an eight-day break for final exams, Notre Dame will welcome in head coach Muffet McGraw’s alma mater, Saint Joseph’s (Pennsylvania), on Dec. 21 for a 1 p.m. (ET) contest at Purcell Pavilion.
