2021 ACC Rowing Championships Day One Results
The University of Notre Dame rowing team advanced all five boats to the Grand Finals on Day One of the 2021 ACC Rowing Championship at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina on Friday morning.
The top six boats from today’s preliminary races advanced to the Grand Finals, which begin at 8:15 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 15. The ACC field is as competitive as ever this season with No. 3 Virginia, No. 11 Syracuse and No. 17 Duke (Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Top 25) among the teams competing for the league title.
“We are pleased that we met the immediate goal of advancing all the boats to the Grand Finals,” Irish head coach Martin Stone said.
“I think every boat believes that they can find some more speed. The 1V had an odd start and recovered well. The 2V had a good second half. The 3V got off to a great start and spun a bit in the middle of the race. The first four started well and lost some speed in ‘no man’s land.’ I think the 2V4 had a phenomenal race today.”
“We are incredibly thankful for the U.S. Rowing officials, the ACC staff and the Clemson support team for our ability to race today. Not only did they deal with the COVID limitations, but the gas shortage and the challenges that presented. It also was great to see ACC commissioner Jim Phillips at the event today.”
