SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Irish tied their program record for goals scored in a match on Tuesday evening in the 13-0 win over Trine. Nine different Notre Dame players found the back of the net in the victory.
Notre Dame had four players record the first goals of their career, as Michael Rossi, Ethan O’Brien, PJ Bujouves and Alex Salvino all opened their Fighting Irish accounts on Tuesday. Freshman Eno Nto led the team with three goals, marking the first hat trick of his career.
Senior goalkeeper Thomas Deslongchamps earned the first start of his career in goal and registered a clean sheet over 90 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Irish raced out to an early lead, scoring three times in the opening 10 minutes of play. Dawson McCartney got the Irish going with a sublime strike off a rebound in the third minute. Nto then scored the first two goals of his night to extend the lead to three.
Tyler Shea got in on the action with his first goal of the season in the 28th minute before the Irish scored on an own goal just before half to give them a 5-0 lead heading into the break.
Notre Dame began the second half in the same fashion as it did the first, scoring four goals in the opening 14 minutes of play to push the score to 9-0. Nto, Rossi, Jack Lynn, and Matthew Roou each tallied a goal in the run.
In the final 20 minutes of play O’Brien, Bujouves, Salvino and Rossi each scored to make the final score 13-0.
ND STAT OF THE MATCH
The 13-0 win marks the largest margin of victory in program history and ties the program record for goals in a game, as the Irish defeated Valparaiso 13-1 during the 1978 season.
NOTES
- The Irish improved to 3-0 against Trine in the all-time series.
- Notre Dame finished with 10 or more goals for the 13th time in program history and first since defeating DePaul 10-0 in 1986.
- Matthew McLaughlin led the team in assists with three, the first three assists of his Notre Dame career.
- Fourteen different players registered a point in the win.
- Deslongchamps made the first appearance of his career, earning the start in goal for Notre Dame.
- The clean sheet was the third of the season for the Irish.
