Irish Begin ACC Championships in Atlanta

Day 1 Results

ATLANTA, Ga. — The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving teams opened up the 2022 ACC Championships Tuesday at the McAuley Aquatic Pavilion in Atlanta. After the first day of action, the women’s team is fifth place with 95 points.

Graduate student diver Kelly Straub got the Irish off to a fast start in the first event of the championships, finishing sixth (287.35) in the 1-meter diving prelims to earn a spot in the finals. Annie Wiese finished 12th in the prelims with a score of 251.30 and Calie Brady was not far behind in 14th with a score of 242.00. In the finals later in the evening, Straub placed seventh with a score of 286.55.

In the men’s 3-meter diving prelims, senior David Petrison placed 33rd (252.70), while William Rains came in 35th (243.90).

The women’s 800 freestyle relay of Ana Herceg, Kallie Chelsvig, Annie Behm and Sydney Whiting placed eighth with a time of 7:10.81. The men’s team had a false start and was DQ’d from the relay finals.

The Irish will be back in the pool Wednesday for the second day of the ACC Championships in Atlanta. Prelims start at 10 a.m. with the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and men’s 1-meter diving.
