Irish Break Six Records At ACC Championships

The men finished ninth overall, while the women took 11th

ATLANTA — Notre Dame swimming and diving broke six school records at the 2026 ACC Championships this weekend, as the men finished ninth and the women finished 11th at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech. 

On the men’s side, Jeremy Kelly broke the 200 IM record (1:42.46), while Tommy Janton broke the 50 backstroke mark (20.82). Dillon Edge held the former record set in 2024, while Marcus Reyes-Gentry held the latter standard also set two seasons ago. 

The Irish had several other notable performances and entries into the all-time program top 10. 

Sophomore Shane Eckler posted best times in the 50 and 100 free (18.89/41.97), moving up to third and second, respectively, in program history. Patrick Branon placed sixth in the 500 free with a best time of 4:15.92, which now ranks third in Irish history. He is also now third in Irish history in the 200 fly after going 1:42.35 this weekend and finishing 17th overall.

For the women, there were two new individual marks set along with a pair of relays. 

Carli Cronk continued her impressive sophomore season, posting a fourth-place finish in the 200 fly in a program record-breaking time of 1:52.59. Coleen Gillilan held the previous mark of 1:53.94 set in 2021. Cronk also won the C final of the 400 IM with a time of 4:09.28, just off her school record in the event. 

Fellow sophomore Hollie Widdows broke the other individual record, leading off the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 48.12. She held the previous mark of 48.24 set earlier this season. The 400 freestyle relay was also one of the records that fell, as Widdows, Cronk, Becky Rentz and Emily Hamill went 3:13.04 and took seventh place.

The 400 medley relay also rewrote the record books, as the team of Hamill, Mary Codevilla, Cronk and Widdows took down the previous school record and went 3:32.63.
