COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Notre Dame Softball team will play in their first midweek game of the season Tuesday, as the Irish head to Columbus, Ohio for a dual against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Notre Dame went 1-2 last weekend in Louisville in its ACC opening weekend. The Irish are 11-12 on the season. They won Saturday’s game 3-2 to force a rubber match on Sunday but fell in heartbreaking fashion in 14 innings, the second-longest game in program history.
In the circle, Notre Dame is tied for second in the conference in strikeouts this season with 148. Micaela Kastor has 52 of them, which is seventh-most in the conference, while Kami Kamzik’s 43 are in the top-15 of the ACC. After a 14 strikeout weekend against the Cardinals, Brianne Weiss is now third on the team with 30 punchouts herself.
Notre Dame has been using the long ball to get on the board, homering in each of the last five games. During that stretch, Rachel Allen has left the yard twice. The Irish have four games of multiple home runs this season.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series against Ohio State 10-4, but is looking for the first win in Columbus. The Irish and Buckeyes last played in 2013 at the ACC/B1G Challenge in Clemson, South Carolina. Ohio State is 17-5-1 on the season under first year head coach Kirin Kumar.
Tuesday’s game is set for a 4:00 p.m. start and will be broadcast on Big 10 Plus.
