KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team responded from an extended weather delay to close with a six-over par score of 290 (298-290-588), earning seventh place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship Sunday at the Cherokee Country Club.
The Irish carded the second-best final round of the 17 teams in the tournament field, and moved up five places on the leaderboard after tying for 12th place after day one. Saturday’s second round was suspended due to heavy rain in the Knoxville area, shortening the tournament to 36 holes.
Sophomore Talia Campbell picked up her first birdie of the second round at the par 5 15th hole, where she had previously made the first Notre Dame eagle of the season Friday, to move to one-under par. Campbell offset three bogeys on her scorecard with a pair of birdies at the par 4 third and seventh holes, leading to an even par round of 71 and a tie for 14th place (73-71-144, +2).
Freshman Jordan Ferreira joined Campbell in a tie for 14th place (73-71-144) after making three birdies in four holes on her outward nine as part of a front side 35 (-1). Ferreira then pared eight of nine holes to cap her final round 71.
Senior Kristina Nhim was the next Notre Dame player on the final leaderboard, closing with a three-over par 74 to share 46th place (76-74-150). Junior Kelli Oride checked in with a tie for 54th place (76-75-151), while junior Ashley Armstrong carded a final round 74 to tie for 56th overall (78-74-152).
Notre Dame will resume its fall tournament schedule Oct. 11-13 at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
