NOTRE DAME, Ind. – With the 2018 regular season winding down, the University of Notre Dame softball team puts the finishing touches on its campaign by welcoming the best team in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to Melissa Cook Stadium this weekend. The Irish host No. 8/6 Florida State in a three-game set to polish off the final scheduled games of the current campaign, and will recognize seniors Sara White, Morgan Reed and Katie Beriont during Sunday’s series finale against the Seminoles.

Special parking restrictions will be in effect on the Notre Dame campus Friday evening to accommodate a number of events occurring in the south end of campus athletics spaces. In addition to the Notre Dame softball matchup with Florida State, Irish baseball and men’s soccer home games will take place concurrently at Frank Eck Stadium and Alumni Stadium, respectively. National recording artists The Chainsmokers will also be playing a concert inside Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center beginning at 8 p.m. (ET).

Because of this arena concert, parking will not be free on the south side of campus. Those attending the baseball, softball or men’s soccer games are asked to park in the Baseball Gold, Library or Bulla lots for free, with a fee to park in the Joyce or Stadium lots being instituted for those arriving after 5 p.m. Free shuttles will run from the Bulla and Library lots to the Baseball Lot.

Irish Close Nonconference Slate With 4-0 Win Over BG

A three-run first inning set the table for Notre Dame on Tuesday night, and the Irish were off to the races from there. A five-hit shutout for Alexis Holloway highlighted a 4-0 Notre Dame victory over Bowling Green in the final nonconference game of the 2018 season at Melissa Cook Stadium.Notre Dame closed the 2018 regular season with an 18-10 record against nonconference foes. The Irish also notched their eighth shutout of the year while limiting Bowling Green to five hits and no free baserunners on the night.

Bazos In A Groove

Flipping the lineup card over successfully all season long as the primary number nine hitter in the Notre Dame order, Alexis Bazos has caught fire over her past five starts. Bazos is batting .462 in the past week with a team-high six hits, driving in three runs while scoring four more. Bazos ranks third on the Notre Dame roster with a .337 batting average over 46 games thus far this season.

Holloway Motors Through Bowling Green Order

Freshman right-hander Alexis Holloway was clicking on all cylinders in the circle on Tuesday night against Bowling Green, spinning an artful five-hit shutout during a 4-0 Notre Dame victory. Holloway issued zero walks over her 113 pitches in the outing, striking out five Falcon batters.

Holloway’s five solo shutouts during her freshman season are the most by any Notre Dame newcomer since Laura Winter also notched five scoreless starts in 2012.

Strikeout Cancer Success

Notre Dame capped its annual Strikeout Cancer weekend with a 9-5 win in the nightcap of a twin bill against Duke on April 14, closing a weekend which saw the program raise over $46,000 to directly benefit pediatric cancer patients in the state of Indiana. The total amount raised over the eight years of the initiative has climbed to nearly $300,000 in funds for children and families stricken by cancer.

Irish Success Against The National Top 20 In 2018

Notre Dame enters this weekend’s series with Florida State as owners of three victories over national top-20 opponents thus far this season. The Irish notched a sweep of No. 14 Minnesota by way of 6-5 and 3-0 wins on Feb. 17-18, adding a 4-3 triumph over No. 20 Michigan on Feb. 18. Notre Dame also out-hit No. 6 Texas A&M by a 2:1 margin in a narrow 5-3 loss on Feb. 22 in Cathedral City, California.

Irish Against The Opposition

Florida State owns a 13-5 edge in its all-time series with Notre Dame, despite both teams splitting the first four contests played at Melissa Cook Stadium. The Irish defeated the No. 7 Seminoles 8-5 on April 13, 2014, narrowly missing the sweep in the nightcap that night thanks to a four-run rally by Florida State in the top of the seventh following a Katey Haus sixth-inning grand slam. A walk-off 5-4 win for Notre Dame over No. 9 Florida State on April 3, 2016, split another weekend series between the clubs on the Notre Dame campus.
