Irish Conclude Annual Clover Cup

MESA, AZ. –  The Notre Dame women’s golf team hosted their annual Clover Cup this past weekend. The Clover Cup hosted 14 teams at the Longbow Golf Course that featured a southwestern-style course, holding crafted ponds, crisp emerald fairways, grassy depressions, and elevated tee boxes and greens, waste bunkers and desert linings that all add challenge to the course. The Irish finished tied for tenth place with rounds of 309, 304, and 293 for a final score of 906 (+42).

“The Clover Cup is an event our players and the field look forward to every year. The venue and weather are unmatched and we hope to continue hosting for many years to come.  Lauren (-2, 70) and Madelyn (E, 72) had great finishes today and I was happy to see our team score improve each day. We are focusing on the process and will continue to learn and grow from every round we play,” said head coach Caroline Powers-Ellis.

The first round of the tournament featured Chloe Schiavone pacing the Irish where she shot 74, only two over par. Montgomery Ferreira wasn’t far behind as she shot a 78, and teammate Lauren Beaudreau was the exact same. Madelyn Jones and Caroline Curtis shot 80 and 79, respectively. Caroline Wrigley rounded out the Irish with a first round score of 88.

Round two of the Clover Cup was much of the same when Schiavone finished even with par (72). Ferreira and Beaudreau continued their streak of shooting similarly when they shot 77 and 75. Jones and Curtis paired themselves in their similar round of scoring when Jones tallied a final round score of 80 and Curtis registered a score of 81. Wrigley finished the day shooting a 82.

The final round of the event kept on pace with the previous two days and Schiavone led again finishing only three over par for the round. She finished the entire weekend tied for 24th with a 221 (+5). Beaudreau finished the weekend with a two under par round and a final score of 225 (+9). Ferreira took her round three and shot a 76 to give herself a 229 at the end of the weekend, and Jones wasn’t far behind as she shot her final round even with par to close out the weekend with a 232.  Curtis finished the Clover Cup with a final round shooting 79 and an overall score of 239. Wrigley collected a round score of 83 for a final score of 253.

The Notre Dame Women’s Golf team will compete next at Florida State at the Seminole Legacy Club, March 17th-19th, 2023.
