WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana — The Notre Dame women’s tennis team, hitting the road for its second match of the weekend, scored a resounding 6-1 victory over Purdue on Sunday afternoon in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Notre Dame took a hard-fought doubles point before winning five of six singles matches to secure the victory, just a day after dropping a 5-2 home match to Iowa.
How It Happened
Doubles
The Irish took a hotly contested doubles point thanks to the court two duo of Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence. The first victory came on court three, where Rachel Chong and Bess Waldram took a 6-3 win, before Brooke Broda and Allison Miller dropped a 7-5 decision on court one. Thankfully for the Irish, Corse and Spence took a victory to clinch the doubles point by a 7-5 margin.
Singles
Ally Bojczuk continued her strong play on court six, winning 6-4, 6-3 to move to 5-0 in the six spot during the dual season. The scoring stopped for a bit as four singles matches went to three sets.
The next decision came on court three, as Zoe Spence made it 3-0 Notre Dame with a win over Ena Babic (7-5, 3-6, 6-1). After Purdue’s Seira Shimizu defeated Caroline Dunleavy at five singles (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), the Irish clinched the win on court two as Cameron Corse downed Alex Sabe, 7-6, 6-4.
The singles matches were played out, with Allison Miller winning on court one over Purdue’s Silvia Ambrosio (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) before the match concluded on court four with Notre Dame’s Rachel Chong coming back to win 5-7, 6-2, 7-6.
