NOTRE DAME, Ind. — For the third time in the past four seasons, the Notre Dame volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament.
The Irish (14-3, 13-3 ACC) will meet Army (6-2, 4-2 Patriot League) in the first round at noon ET on Wednesday, April 14 and the winner of that matchup will take on tenth-seeded Oregon in the second round at noon ET on Thursday, April 15. NOTRE DAME IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
- This marks Notre Dame’s 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Irish have an all-time record of 11-9 in their first match of the tournament.
- Notre Dame has advanced to at least the NCAA Tournament round of 16 on six occasions.
- Notre Dame’s best finish at the NCAA Tournament came in 1993, when the Irish advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating No. 8 Nebraska and Minnesota.
- The last time the Irish made it to the second weekend of play came in 2005, when Notre Dame defeated Dayton and Northwestern in the first two rounds at home to advance to the round of 16.
- The Irish played UCLA in their last match in the NCAA Tournament on Dec. 6, 2019, in Madison, Wisconsin.
The NCAA Championship field has been reduced to 48 teams this season with the top-16 seeds earning byes to the second round. The field includes 30 automatic qualifiers and 18 at-large selections.
The entirety of the tournament will be played in Omaha, Nebraska, with the first two rounds set for April 14-15, the regional semifinals and finals set for April 18-19, the national semifinals set for April 22 and the national championship set for April 24.
The Irish were one of four ACC programs to make the field, joining Louisville, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.
