Irish Dominate at Regionals

Notre Dame finished with five first golds and 14 podium finishers

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Notre Dame fencing team continued the impressive 2026 season at the 2026 NCAA Midwest Regional Sunday, finishing with five first place finishes and 14 fencers on the podium.

The Notre Dame men swept all three weapons, as Kruz Schembri (epee), Radu Nitu (sabre) and Chase Emmer (foil) all took gold. On the women’s side, Ariadna Tucker (foil) and Kyle Fallon (epee) stood above all.

Eszter Muhari took silver in women’s epee while Sedna Gandhi finished eighth. Felicity Sebastian took 13th place and Zoe Kim came in 19th. In sabre, Magda Skarbonkiewicz finished second, just ahead of Lola Possick in third. Siobhan Sullivan just missed the podium but still finished fourth as the Irish claimed three of the top four spots. In women’s foil, Josephina Conway finished with silver right behind Tucker.

On the men’s side, the Irish swept the podium in epee and sabre. Behind Schembri, Maruan Osman Touson placed second while Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle and Elijah Imrek both tied for third. James Sennewald finished 19th. In sabre, Nitu captured first, right ahead of 2026 ACC Sabre Champion Ahmed Hesham who placed second. Grand Dodrill finished third while Justin Miclaus came in fifth. Outside of Emmer in foil, Ziyuan Chen finished in fifth.

The Irish will look to defend its National Title when the NCAA National Championships return to South Bend at the Castellan Family Fencing Center inside of the Joyce Center beginning on Thursday, March 19. The four-day event will conclude on Sunday, March 22.
