SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame volleyball team wrapped up the 2025 season victorious, downing Wake Forest in four sets, 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23 on a snowy Saturday afternoon in South Bend. The Irish finished the season 12-16 overall, but 9-11 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The nine conference wins are the most in the Salima Rockwell era, nearly doubling last year’s total, and slotted Notre Dame in a tie for ninth in the conference, three spots ahead of its preseason selection.
Following the match, Notre Dame honored its five seniors: #2 Maisie Alexander, #3 Avery Ross, #5 Cailey Dockery, #6 Harmony Sample and #7 Lucy Trump. All five were four-year players for the Irish and have been with Rockwell and her staff since 2022 as the program continues to ascend.
Morgan Gaerte continued to play at an elite level for the Irish. The sophomore had 31 kills on .403 hitting against the Demon Deacons, her third 30+ kill game of the season. She finishes her sophomore season with 497 kills, the third-most in a season in school history and the most by a Notre Dame player since 1997. Those 497 kills are also the third-most in the ACC this season, which is arguably the best volleyball conference in the country. Gaerte also had 11 games with 20 or more kills this year, including five in a row to close the season, to extend her program record in a season. She’ll await her conference and national accolades in the upcoming weeks.
In their final game with the Irish, all five seniors made an impact in the win. Lucy Trump notched 10 kills while Avery Ross chipped in nine kills of her own. Cailey Dockery led the team with 19 digs while Harmony Sample dished out 23 assists. Maisie Alexander threw in a pair of service aces as the senior class leaves Notre Dame victorious.
