NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team struggled to find any momentum on Thursday at Florida State, with the No. 28 Irish falling in an uncharacteristic 4-0 decision to the No. 47 Seminoles at the Speicher Tennis Center.
How It Happened
The Irish (16-6, 7-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) fought within one game on two doubles courts, but the Seminoles (13-8, 5-3 ACC) took the point with wins on Courts 1 and 3. Daniela Schippers and Gabriella Casteneda defeated senior Jane Fennelly and freshman Zoe Spence 6-2 on Court 3, and Florida State clinched when Julia Mikulski and Andrea Garcia edged seniors Mary Closs and Monica Robinson 7-6(X) on Court 1.
The Seminoles went on to claim the next three points to clinch the match at 4-0. They extended the lead as Garcia defeated Closs 6-2, 6-0 on the fifth singles court, then went up 3-0 when Ariana Rahmanparast upended sophomore Rachel Chong 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6. Schippers notched the winning point for Florida State, defeating Spence 6-2, 6-2 on Court 4.
Up Next
The Irish will head to Atlanta on Saturday to wrap up their weekend on the road against Georgia Tech at noon ET at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
