Irish Drop Dual Meet At Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Six races were won by the Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team Friday at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center but the Irish were ousted by host Purdue, 121-179. Both Samantha Maxwell and Katie Casey shelved a pair of individual victories for Notre Dame.

The Irish (0-2) return to the pool Nov. 20-22 at Indiana’s Hoosierland Invite.

400 Medley Relay: Notre Dame earned first-place points behind the efforts of Kim Holden, Samantha Maxwell, Katie Casey and Amywren Miller … they finished in 3:45.86.

1,000 Free: Gracie Fredlake (10:17.38) was second with Jaime Malandra (10:18.27) touching third … fourth-place went to Ashlee Edgell (10:20.60).

200 Free: Megan Farrell (1:51.99), who placed fourth, was Notre Dame’s highest finisher.

100 Back: Holden (56.78) was second and Keri Masterson (59.50) took fourth.

100 Breast: Maxwell flexed over the field and took the gold in 1:02.72.

200 Fly: The Irish won their second straight race as Casey outlasted the field in 2:02.70.

50 Free: Miller (23.37) was second as Lauren Scott (24.07) wrapped up the race in fourth.

100 Free: Miller followed up with a third-place showing in 51.67.

200 Back: Holden surged ahead of the competition and finished first in 2:01.80 … Farrell (2:05.71) was third.

200 Breast: Maxwell’s second individual win was posted after going 2:18.48 … Edgell (2:24.25) placed third.

500 Free: Fredlake (5:02.30) and Malandra (5:04.99) finished second and third, respectively.

100 Fly: Casey added another feather to her cap after taking first in 56.12 … Scott (56.66) earned the bronze.

200 Individual Medley: Farrell led the Irish with a second-place showing in 2:07.17 … behind her were teammates Emily Barton (2:08.84) and Zeina Shanata (2:10.20).

400 Free Relay: Amy Prestinario, Scott, Holden and Miller held on for a second-place performance in 3:30.02.

1-meter Diving: Heidi Grossman (271.13) scored third-place points for the Irish.

3-meter Diving: Gross (283.20) and Jenny Chiang (267.60) finished in the third and fourth spots, respectively.
